The ACJC Alumni Choir
The ACJC Alumni Choir comprises singers of various ages who have been inspired by their time in the College Choir and are eager to continue performing choral music. Integrity, an eagerness to learn and a pursuit of excellence are values shared by choristers across the years and unite the choir as one committed to blessing through music.
Since 1995, the choir has been a regular feature in the annual An Evening with Friends concert, presented together with the ACJC Choir. It also holds its own concert each December, Advent with the ACJC Alumni Choir, singing a full programme of seasonal music across a wide range of styles.
The Alumni Choir has also performed on many international stages. Alumni singer mentors have supported the ACJC Choir’s choral tours since 1996, performing at many overseas choral festivals and competitions. In 2011, the Alumni Choir embarked on its first choral tour, travelling to London to perform at a number of venues, and then to Tampere, Finland, to participate in the Tampere Vocal Music Festival, where they were awarded 2 Gold Stamps in the choral review. They set off on a concert tour in 2013 to London and Oxford, performing at St George’s Bloomsbury, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Voices Now Festival in London, as well as Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford.
Recognising the need to contribute to the Singaporean choral community as well, the Alumni Choir organised Project All Sing in 2014, which brought interested local choristers to make music together and perform at the inaugural Singapore International Choral Festival. Over the years, the Alumni Choir has also broadened its musical horizons, commissioning and performing new music by composers from both Singapore and abroad. In 2015, it was privileged to record some of these commissioned works for an album, Prayers and Poems, released in 2016.
Amid these activities, the ACJC Alumni Choir remains a group of friends united by a passion for choral singing and a desire to grow as an ensemble. At its heart, the choir firmly believes in making music that touches and brings joy to its audience.
